Getting back on the bike to transform lives with Diabetic Alert Dogs
...so in 2020, I actually did something very similar to this. I dedicated a month to riding 1000 kilometres as a fundraiser for my own Lions Club. I raised about $1000 and I developed a bike riding habit out of it, which has basically persisted to this day. Cool.
In recent times, however, I haven't been riding as much as I used to - and also a few of my friends have encouraged me -Â so maybe I could use this opportunity to revive the habit and restore my health - and raise funds for another Lions-associated entity, the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs Foundation.Â
So yeah. Same distance, same fundraising target. Should be achievable. And one of Lions' best-kept secrets gets to benefit. Nice.
And now, a pre-prepared statement, lovingly crafted by the brilliant PR geniuses at ALHD HQ, that explains what the fundraiser is all about:
Living with diabetes can be tough, with constant worries about blood sugar levels. Diabetic Alert Dogs are specially trained to detect changes in their owner’s blood sugar, alerting them before it becomes dangerous. These amazing dogs not only help keep people safe but also offer comfort and companionship. My goal is to provide these life-changing Diabetic Alert Dogs free of charge to Australians living with diabetes. I believe everyone should have access to this support, regardless of their situation. Your donations make this possible by helping us train more dogs and support families.
Please donate today. Every little bit helps us provide hope and support to those living with diabetes. Together, we can make a real difference.
